What is the Core?
The IB Diploma is made up of six subject groups and the Core. Made up of the three required components, the Core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.
The three Core elements are:

Theory of knowledge, in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.

The extended essay, is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word academic paper.

Creativity, Activity, Service, in which students complete a project related to those three concepts.
The DBS IB Core Exhibition
The DBS IB Core Exhibition is an opportunity for our students to present their progress in the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS).

Students delve into how knowledge manifests in the world around them and how knowledge is constructed and perceived. Two items to be completed for external assessment include the TOK Exhibition, completed in the 1st year, and the TOK Essay, completed in the 2nd year. The TOK Exhibition involves the selection of unique objects that demonstrate their interpretation of a selected knowledge question and its manifestation in the world. During this Core Exhibition they will present their perspectives to you.
